The stars did not disappoint on the red carpet at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Monday, which saw a mix of classic favourites and standout pieces.
White gowns reigned supreme with a number of stars. While Padma Lakshmi opted for a minimalist ensemble by Ralph Rucci, Sophia Vergara chose high-octane glamour with Roberto Cavalli. But, in the Battle of the Whites, the winner was True Detective star Michelle Monaghan in a Giambattista Valli Couture gown.
Fail-safe metallics made an appearance as well: as Hayden Panettiere (and her baby bump) shone in a Lorena Sarbu gown with a plunging neckline, and Orange Is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling successfully carried off understated shine in a diaphonous Zuhair Murad Couture gown.
Stars also stuck to the biggest golden rule of the red carpet: show a sliver of skin. Twenty-three-year-old Modern Family star, Sarah Hyland, commanded double-takes in a red and white Christian Siriano crop top and full skirt, Kerry Washington combined an orange gown with a navy blue mini, and Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery wore a waterfall-like cutout gown by Rosie Assoulin, which was one of the standout pieces of the night.
