Court rejects Preeti Bhatia bail plea for Odisha chit fund scam

Bhubaneswar: The special CBI court on Friday rejected the bail plea of Mumbai-based model and television serial producer Preeti Bhatia, who was arrested by CBI on October 10 over her alleged business links with chit fund firm AT group.

The CBI had taken Bhatia on a 4-day remand on October 14 for further questioning. After completion of her remand period, CBI had produced her in the special CBI court. She was sent to judicial custody as the hearing over her bail plea wasn’t delivered. The court, on Friday, completed its hearing over Bhatia’s bail plea. After rejection of her bail plea, she was sent to judicial custody.

The CBI had raided Bhatia’s house in Mumbai on August 16 and had found business links between Bhatia and Sethi, who were directors in a company called Prism Heights Films & Entertainment Private Limited, which had its registered office at Santa Cruz (West) area in Mumbai. Allegations have been made that AT Group had invested crores of chit fund money in this company. Bhatia was arrested on October 10 after she failed to account for the monetary transactions with Pradip Sethy.
