The country musician is known for her over-the-top look, always sporting a full face of make-up, perfectly styled blonde hair and sparkly clothes. That’s one of the reasons she loves the festive season so much, as it gives her an opportunity to go all out.
“On every occasion,” she laughed, when British magazine Heat asked if she dresses up for Christmas. “I have all my nieces and nephews over for a night during the holidays. There’s an elevator in my house and I had it painted at the bottom like a chimney, so I dress up in my Santa suit. I have toys in big bags and I come down the elevator like I’m coming down the chimney. Every year I dress like that.”
It’s not just her young relatives who get to see Dolly in full attire though. As the years have gone on she’s realised many of her nearest and dearest love seeing her in her festive get up, so she tends to use it for her holiday greetings too.
“Yeah [I write my own cards], usually with a picture of me as Santa. I do a lot of photos for Christmas at Dollywood [her theme park] – my friends get a real kick out of it,” she laughed.
The 68-year-old singer released her 42nd album, Blue Smoke, this year. It did well around the globe, further cementing her as one of the most successful country artists of all time – Dolly has 25 releases that have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum.
Despite her success she still likes getting her hands dirty, which includes the festive cooking.
“Oh yeah, we all cook. My speciality is chicken and dumplings,” she giggled.
