Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko supporters have been exchanging bitter words on social media over who is popular between the two politicians. On Sunday night in a WhatsApp up platform dubbed Nairobi Forward, Sonko supporters led by former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua and several City MCAs lashed out at Governor Kidero for being unpopular and that he will be voted out come 2017.
The debate started after one Billy Muiruri posted that if Kidero faces Sonko in 2017, Kidero will win. However, Simon Mbugua posted that Sonko is the man to beat since “he associates himself with the lowly and that he will be his deputy”. However, Kidero supporters led by Erick Okoth said that Sonko has the masses but Kidero the votes. Kamukunji politician Ibrahim Johny posted that in all polls commissioned even by CORD- Sonko beats Kidero.
Another Kidero supporter Sande Oloyo quickly posted that Kidero will beat Sonko. Mbugua went on to say that Kidero has the money and Sonko the people. Simon Mbugua asked Dagoreti South MP Denis Waweru to stop bragging that he has the Kikuyu vote and accused him of being a candidate who wants to be selected. Erick Okoth termed Kidero as a Mafia who sent away Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu from the City and that all the City Mafias fear Kidero.
The debate that started at 8pm raged on past midnight and saw several City politicians including Ibrahim Johny, City MCAs Leah Mumo, Millicent Mugadi, Charles Thuo of Dandora among others contribute. Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru only followed and was forced to react after a post from one Alex Mwambu seemed to infuriate her. “Mama Yao is slowly positioning herself after Kidero sent her where she belonged,” Mwambu posted and Wanjiru replied, “Yes Alex continue……”.
Several politicians like Rachel Shebesh were vilified and termed as nonstarters City politics. Shebesh is rumored to be interested in the Roysambu parliamentary seat. KenGen Director Millicent Omanga was touted a possible women rep for Nairobi come 2017 and that she will add the Kisii vote to the Jubilee wing. Ziwani MCA Millicent Mugadi advised the group members not to insult women after several posts claimed that Shebesh and Millicent Omanga were simply beautiful and can not add any value apart from beauty to any political camp.
