LEGO Batman movie casts Ralph Nathaniel Fiennes as Alfred

So far, the voice casting for the LEGO Batman movie has been exceptionally on-point, with Will Arnett reprising his satirically brooding role as the titular hero alongside Michael Cera’s Robin, Rosario Dawson’s Batgirl and Zach Galifianakis’ Joker. Joining that awesome lineup is Ralph Fiennes, who will lend his vocal talents to the role of Batman / Bruce Wayne’s wise old butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

Fiennes has signed on to voice Alfred in the LEGO Movie spinoff, and given Arnett’s high-maintenance animated version of the iconic superhero, it’s safe to assume that this iteration of Alfred will be more of a long-suffering type. Alfred has been with Batman since 1943, and has appeared in various comics, animated series and films, often portrayed as a dignified and loyal servant who assists Bruce Wayne and Batman in their respective endeavors and offers sage wisdom in his time of need.

Fiennes joins Arnett, Cera and Dawson in the film, that Galifianakis remains in negotiations to play the Joker. The LEGO Batman movie will be directed by Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on The LEGO Movie, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller producing alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee. The screenplay was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the novel on which the upcoming film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is based.

Fiennes can be seen this weekend in Spectre, reprising his role as M, and also stars in the Coen brothers’ upcoming comedy Hail, Caesar! The LEGO Batman movie hits theaters on February 10, 2017.
