According to latest buzz in the political circle in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under pressure from party leaders and allies, may go for a Cabinet expansion by inducting 25 more Ministers. The expansion may take place towards end of June or in the first week of July. Currently, the Modi Cabinet has 23 Cabinet Ministers, 10 MoS (Independent Charge) and 12 MoS apart from the PM himself.
Many states such as Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh may get more Ministerial berths. Saurabh Patel (Gujarat), Anurag Thakur (Himachal Pradesh) and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Rajasthan) are the front-runners. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi may also get the nod.
The Shiv Sena and TDP may get two Ministerial berths each. In addition, portfolio of Anant Geete may be changed. A new Defence Minister may be named very soon. That portfolio is currently with Arun Jaitley, who also holds the Finance portfolio. Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal may get the MoS berth.
The BJP may accommodate a few more allies in the Cabinet. It is being speculated that some other parties are in touch with the BJP to join the NDA fold. If that happens, some of them could a get a few Cabinet berths too.
