Nicki Minaj continues her rise up the Social 50 chart, moving 5-2 after releasing a new single, “Pills N Potions,” on May 21. It matches her peak on the tally, registered on the Feb. 25, 2012 list, after she performed with Madonna on that year’s Super Bowl.
The Social 50 incorporates the following metrics: weekly additions of fans across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram; reactions and conversations across Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook; and views to an artist’s Wikipedia page, according to music analytics provider Next Big Sound.
“Pills” is the first single from Minaj’s forthcoming album, “The Pink Print,” due out later this year. The track’s official audio release caused over a half a million mentions on Twitter in the week ending May 25 (up 149 percent over the previous week). The groundswell around the album release causes a 30 percent bump in views to her Wikipedia page, as well.
Wiz Khalifa moves 31-20 on the Social 50 after performing one of the best #selfie stunts in recent history. In the early morning of May 25, Khalifa was arrested in a Texas airport for alleged marijuana possession and decided to tweet a selfie from his jail cell.
The post spawned dozens of headlines, and has been retweeted more than 54 thousand times, bringing his total retweets for the week up to 473,000 (up 172 percent from the previous week). The humorous run-in
with the law, combined with anticipation over the release of his newest mixtape “28 Grams” (which was released May 26) caused a 275 percent increase in mentions to his handle on Twitter which lead to a 9 percent increase in followers on the platform. Overall, his rate of fan acquisition increased by 55 percent over the previous week as he adds more than 281 thousand across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Below Khalifa, we see “Pretty Little Liars” cast member and budding country star Lucy Hale makes her Social 50 debut at No. 35. Hale is gearing up for the release of her debut full length release, “Road Between,” which is due out June 3. The swell in activity, a 17 percent rise in weekly fan acquisition, surrounds her actively promoting the release across her social channels.
Lastly, YouTube star (and finalist on “The Voice”) Christina Grimmie re-enters at No. 45 after placing third on the show’s season finale, losing to Josh Kaufman (May 20). She re-enters with a 92 percent rise in weekly Wikipedia views, which helped add 133,000 new Facebook fans and 90,000 new followers across Twitter and Instagram.

La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho remains at No. 6, while 5 Seconds of Summer dips 4-7. Ariana Grande remains at No. 8 while Katy Perry makes the leap 14-9 to hit the top 10.
