The Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) will celebrate the music and culture of Funk Carioca by hosting the IV Conferência Funk (Funk Conference) with four free events held on Wednesdays during the month of August. In addition to live performances by DJs and MCs, guests and speakers during the events will include government officials, policymakers, various experts and lovers of the genre.
Presented by Rio Parada Funk, the series of events entitled, Funk at the Museum, will begin on Wednesday, August 5th. Each day will be themed with the first entitled, “Funk é o pode! Encontro com o poder público” (Funk is the power! A meeting with the government). Guests will include Secretary Eva Doris (SEC-RJ), DJs Marlboro and Sany Pitbull, Rio creative Mark Andre Teixeira, MC Smith, and the Superintendent of Youth Policies.
The second event on August 12th will be themed “Direitos Autorais” (Copyright) and will feature guests including lawyer Deborah Sztajnberg, Pedro Augusto of the Fundação Getulio Vargas institute (FGV), DJ Mavi and MC Leonardo.
The third event of the series, themed “O Baile Funk na Era Transmídia” (Baile Funk in the Era of Transmedia), will take place on August 19th. Guests will feature the Municipal Secretary of Culture Marcelo Calero, Marcello DuGhettu, Andre Dias of Globo, and Jean Philippe Rosier. Additionally DJs Marlboro and Sany Pitbull will return to perform during the night.
Finally on August 26th the fourth and final event in the series will be themed “Proibidão” (Prohibited). Guests will include Carlos Palombini, Praga, Écio Salles, and Carlos Bruce.
The opening of the Museu de Arte do Rio in the city’s Port Zone in March 2013 helped to revitalize and enrich the area’s cultural scene. In addition to art and photography exhibits, the museum has hosted events including film screenings and the Eu Amo Baile Funk party earlier this year.
