Asian Games: Sepak takraw bronze for Singapore after Laos disqualification

SINGAPORE earned a bronze medal in sepak takraw doubles on Sunday night, after semi-finalists Laos were disqualified in their match against South Korea for failing to turn up.

The team, made up of Mohamad Farhan Amran, Muhammad Hafiz Nor Izam Ja’afar and Eddy Nor Shafiq Sahari, were awarded the bronze medal as they were the fifth-best team after the opening pool stage.

Earlier on Sunday, they had missed out on the semi-finals after losing narrowly to Japan 21-19, 14-21, 23-25 in their final pool game.

They had beaten Nepal 21-14, 21-6 but lost to South Korea 11-21, 6-21 on Saturday’s opening pool games.
