Chinese foreign minister meets Sushma Swaraj


The two leaders held discussions over ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas including trade and investment.

Wang is special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He arrived in New Delhi today morning for a two-day visit. The main aim of Wang’s visit is to establish political contacts with the new Indian government under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

Senior officials from both the countries were present during the meeting between Wang and Swaraj. This is the first high-profile meeting between the two nations since Modi assumed office.


During his two-day stay in the country, Wang will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Modi.

The Chinese minister is also scheduled to hold meeting with senior Indian officials and will have in-depth exchanges on how to push forward bilateral relations.

Sources said that Beijing is interested in improving relations with India at a time when it is battling maritime disputes with Japan in the East China Sea and with Vietnam, the Philippines and other maritime neighbours in the South China Sea.
