On Children’s Day, early in the morning, Randeep Hooda and Adil Hussain joined Delhi kids for a run, called ‘Run for Children’. But the organisers had a tough time trying to make sure that the 4,000 enthusiastic kids who participated didn’t get distracted by the celebs who came to cheer them on.
‘Sirf humare bachche nahin, yeh desh ke bachche hain’
Participants had gathered at Nehru park near Chanakyapuri, where they warmed up before the run. Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and traffic police officials were seen cheering for and encouraging the kids. Sisodia said, “Yeh sirf aapke bachche nahin hain, yeh iss desh ke bachche hain.”
Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma, who had also come to support the event, said, “It’s a good initiative. I’m amazed to see so many kids participating in the run. We should all come forward to support these kids.”
Main aur Charles’ reunion
The event was organised by Prayas, an NGO run by former Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Amod Kanth. With Hooda, Hussain and Kanth all present at the venue, it was like a Main Aur Charles reunion. In the film based on Charles Sobhraj, Hooda played the titular role, and Hussain played Kanth’s role.
Remembering his childhood days, Hussain said, “I have really fond memories of Children’s Day – we would stand in line and wait for sweets while remembering Nehru. Those days were simple, nothing like the madness we see in metro cities. The world in which children are growing up today is quite different.”
