Peter Munya stormed out of a public meeting that was being held by the Deputy President. Ruto was sitting on the stage at the public fundraiser, that was held for the Imenti Youth Empowerement Sacco, when Munya stormed off. The governor claimed that local leaders within Meru county have been urging him to join with Jubilee.
How did Munya respond? He told Kiraitu Murungi, the senator from Meru county along with Ruto, that he would not join with Jubilee.
“In 2017 I will ask for votes on another party, I have a right to choose which party I will join. I cannot be intimidated or told the route to follow,” said Munya of the issue. Sections of the crowd attending the fundraising meeting then heckled the Meru county governor.
MPs who attended the meeting largely came out in favour of the newly formed JAP. The issue may have stemmed from Kiraitu announcing that he intends to run for the seat of Meru governor in the 2017 general election.
