Prepare for assembly polls: Modi tells BJP general secretaries

He also held talks over the measures which they are planning to take in order to strengthen the party ahead of assembly elections in key states.

The meeting lasted for over an hour and was attended by all ten general secretaries of the party. Modi held the meeting at his residence in New Delhi. It is learned that the prime minister has urged the party leaders to act as a bridge between the people and the government.

This is the first such meeting called by Modi after he took charge as Prime Minister on Monday.
Modi is scheduled to meet more party workers and leaders at the party’s headquarters at Ashok Road on Sunday.

The BJP leader has called the meeting to thank the leaders for the efforts made by them in helping the saffron party win thumping majority in the polls.

Experts maintain that the meeting called by Modi is an attempt by him to add more muscle to the organisational strength of the BJP.

“Inspired by motivational msg from Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, at a meeting with party GSs, to serve party and nation with renewed vigour,” party general secretary Varun Gandhi tweeted after the meeting.

Sources said that Prime Minister also asked the party leaders to start making preparations for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana later this year and Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar next year.

Modi also directed the BJP general secretaries to start preparing for the 2016 assembly elections in states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry.
